Pitbull saves owner

Pitbull saves owner

In a move that should surely help rehabilitate the image of pitbulls, a hero named Kilo saved his owner last week during an alleged attempted burglary in Staten Island, NewYork this past week. News reports indicate that the burglar disguised himself as a delivery person, and then attempted to push open a door after the owner had left it partially opened while he got a pen. The owner attempted to shut the door, aided by Kilo. The burglar shot the dog in the head and then apparently ran off.

The owner, Mr. Becker, took his dog in for veterinary care before informing the police of the attempted burglary. Amazingly enough, the gunshot wound did not penetrate, or even fracture, Kilo’s skull but went through the skin under his ear. A 40-minute surgery put Kilo to rights, and he was soon able to return home to his grateful owner.

All crimes stories are unfortunate, of course, and I never like to hear about dogs being hurt. There are some details about this story as well, that make me feel there might be more to it than I’ve seen reported. Overall though, it shares a message that pitbulls can be brave and loyal dogs, willing to risk their lives for their families. I hope that this message can get out to the public.

What is your take on the story? Do you feel the owner might know more than is being reported? Regardless, do you feel that it will help the general public develop a well-balanced view of pitbulls?
